Are Log Homes More Expensive To Build June 20, 2011

There is plenty of scuttlebutt floating around about log homes. Perhaps, this article will answer some questions exposing the good and the otherwise about log homes. One myth is that log homes are more expensive to build than the traditional tract home. Not so. With a log home you use….well…logs. And, depending on the type of log used for construction it will be less costly than expensive tree-cut-to-order lumber. The reality is the features and amenities included in any home will reflect the overall costs. But if you operate as your own general contractor on your log home project, you’ll save plenty of the green stuff. Sure it will be more time consuming than if you hired a professional contractor, however the savings can be worth the trouble.

Log homes are also generally superior to tract built frame construction, and if you live in a timber producing area of the country, logs will be cheaper, ergo, saving you money in time and construction costs. Other factors involved in comparing log homes with other construction would be the size of the home, building site, and complexity of floor plans. Also, log homes are safer than stick built if there’s a fire.
