There are plenty of myths associated with a log home. Your Aunt Hazel may tell you they’re not safe. Then Uncle Bob may chime in with the comment that a log home will burn to the ground at the first sign of a fire. Yikes! To assuage any negative talk, let’s dustoff the truth machine and deal with facts, not innuendo.

1 – Regarding longevity, a log home should last longer than your traditional home, given quality construction. One of the most important factors that will keep your log home in top shape is to insure all water is drained away from the base of the house at the beginning of construction, then making occasional checks for any water damage. For sure, you don’t want an underground sprinkler system spraying water on the logs. Water inspectons after rainstorms is also suggested. Rotting logs can cost a lot of money. Base log rotting would be the hardest to replace. In some cases you can’t do it withoug tearing down the log home and starting over.
2 – Log homes are safer than stick-built homes. They last longer are not susceptible to fire, and depending on your log choice, could outlive you.
